Innovation fund - Fiordland Great Views Holiday Park, Te Anau

Fiordland Great Views Holiday Park in Te Anau is located in the World Heritage Area of Fiordland National Park, which means the environmental impacts of investment decisions are always top of mind.

The installation of a solar water heating system in the Holiday Park under this project was intended to help with their Qualmark responsible tourism rating and also with lowering their costs by reducing their diesel and electricity use.

The Holiday Park includes motel units, tourist flats, cabins, as well as caravan and tent sites. The existing system prior to the solar water heating installation was electric cylinders combined with a diesel boiler. JNJ Solar has installed an additional cylinder to act as a buffer tank for extra storage and a 31.2m2 solar water heating system.

The supplier has estimated that the solar water heating system will cut the energy consumption for the hot water system by 32%.

The system has been monitored and results will be provided at the end of the project.
