Innovation fund project – WEL Networks pilot scheme

Through the innovation fund WEL Networks Ltd are undertaking a pilot project for a different method of investing in a solar water heating system. This project will install solar water heating into up to eight homes in the WEL Networks distribution area, which includes Hamilton city. WEL Networks will retain ownership of the systems and customers will pay a monthly fee and receive reduced electricity costs.

This project will test the commercial model and processes for this distribution model and possibly look at rolling out a large scale project based on the pilot's results.

The project is expected to be complete in May 2010.
