Innovation Fund Project - Anchorage Motel, Te Anau

This motel in Fiordland will provide an example of the performance of solar water heating (SWH) in one of the coldest regions in NZ.
Located in Quitin Drive, Te Anau, the Anchorage Motel currently has 14 units with up to 35 person occupancy.
The 16m2 Solahart BT panels with two 500 litre GreenGlo tanks have been added to the existing instantaneous gas and electric hot water cylinders.
The motel is currently using gas costing $800 per month and electricity costing $1000 per month. The project owner estimates that this solar water heating system will lead to annual saving of 75%.
The motel owners are happy to be implementing a project that will have a great appeal to environmentally conscious domestic and overseas visitors.
The motel will be monitored for twelve months with electricity, gas and water flow meters to assess the performance of this system.
Results will be made available when the monitoring of this project is complete.
