Upcoming events

  • Downstream - the energy sector's new annual conference. This 2-day event in Auckland on March 6 and 7 2012 features a line-up of key industry stakeholders and influencers to discuss a broad range of issues pertinent to the electricity, downstream gas and petroleum industries. Speakers include TrustPower's Vince Hawksworth, Genesis Energy's Albert Brantley, Contact Energy's Dennis Barnes, Methanex New Zealand's Harvey Weake and Transpower's Patrick Strange. EECA Chief Executive Mike Underhill will present an opinion piece on how New Zealand can realise its energy efficiency and renewable energy goals.

  • EECA Awards 2012 - celebrating excellence and innovation in energy efficiency and renewable energy. The Awards cover nine categories, and entries are invited from innovative projects and programmes throughout New Zealand. Entries close at 5pm on Monday 20 February 2012. Winners will be announced at a ceremony on Wednesday 23 May 2012 at the Langham Hotel, Auckland.

Recent events

  • The NZI National Sustainable Business Network Awards and Sustainability Showcase was held 8 - 9 November in Auckland. EECA was pleased to sponsor the Trailblazer - Small to Medium Business Award in the 2011 SBN Awards. This year the awards event was accompanied by a two-day Sustainability Showcase featuring products and services including displays on home, work, outdoors, food, fashion and transport.   • The SEANZ Conference 2011 ran 31 Oct - 1 Nov in Christchurch. This conference was aimed at individuals wanting to grow and develop the small scale renewable distributed generation industry. For further information, visit the SEANZ website.
  • The Clean Energy Expo ran 13-16 October in Taupo. The expo was part of the REAL New Zealand Showcase - a programme coordinated by the NZ2011 Office to present the very best of New Zealand business, innovation, expertise and excellence to the world during Rugby World Cup 2011. The Expo featured workshops on geothermal and biomass aimed at businesses and industry, followed on the weekend by a public expo and tours. EECA had an exhibition stand featuring a range of information on energy efficiency and renewable energy. The event was held at the New Zealand Clean Energy Centre (NZCEC) in Taupo.
  • The Bioenergy Liquid Biofuels Conference 2011 ran in Wellington, 12 August 2011. The conference, sponsored by EECA was entitled "Celebrating Biofuels Today, Ensuring Biofuels for Tomorrow". It covered New Zealand's growing use of biofuels in a range of sectors as we move towards advanced biofuels of the future. Find out more on the Bioenergy Association of New Zealand website.
  • The 7th Australia-New Zealand Climate Change and Business Conference ran 1-2 August 2011 in Wellington. The conference explored what climate change means for business and how businesses can maximise the opportunities and mitigate the risks. View presentations from the conference.
  • IRHACE Conference 2011 - the Institute of Refrigeration, Heating and Air Conditioning, and Engineers of NZ held their 21st Annual Conference in Rotorua, at the Rotorua Convention Centre 19th - 22nd May 2011. The theme for this year was "Energy Efficiency and Compliance".
  • The Residues to Revenues 2011 conference ran 30 - 31 March 2011. This industry focused conference and exhibition provides an update on new technologies, research, changing standards and key developments within the forest and wood residues industry.
  • The 2010 EECA Awards were on 25 November 2010, Auckland. The Awards celebrated organisations who have demonstrated excellence and innovation in energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. The Awards covered nine different categories, and attracted a wide range of entries from innovative projects and programmes throughout New Zealand. Entrants ranged from small businesses to large corporates, and included both public sector and private sector organisations.
  • The AA ENERGYWISE™ Rally ran 11 - 14 October 2010. The rally is jointly organised by the AA, EECA and Gull Petroleum New Zealand. Vehicles entered into the competition compete against each other in seven different categories for the title of the most fuel efficient in each class. The supreme winner is the vehicle that costs the least to run over the entire rally.

2010 events

  • The Cost Effective Refrigeration Workshop ran 30 August - 3 September 2010 in Palmerston North. It covered food refrigeration, heat load estimation, chilling and freezing calculations, absorption refrigeration, refrigerant & equipment selection, operational efficiency, refrigeration plant layout & design and water vapour effects.   • The New Zealand Sustainable Building Conference ran 26-28 May 2010 in Wellington. The New Zealand Sustainable Building Conference – (SB10 NZ) brought  together a wide range of industry stake holders to focus on the issue of sustainable building in the New Zealand environment.
  • Aotearoa Wave and Tidal Energy Association (AWATEA) annual conference  ran 19-20 April 2010 in Wellington. EECA was a sponsor of this two-day event. 
  • The EECA Biofuels and Electric Vehicles Conference ran 21 April 2010 in Wellington. New Zealand's principal industry conference on biofuels and electric vehicles, featuring a range of international and local speakers.
  • The Bioenergy Association of New Zealand (BANZ) liquid biofuels workshop ran 22 April 2010 in Wellington.  This followed on from the EECA Biofuels and Electric Vehicles conference.
  • The NZ Wind Energy Conference and Exhibition 2010 was held 29-31 March in Palmerston North. EECA was a sponsor and Manager Energy Supply Fiona Weightman presented on the growth of wind energy in new Zealand.
  • EECA's Wood Energy seminars ran 22 March (Auckland), 25 March (Dunedin) and 26 March (Christchurch) They provided an overview of the technical considerations for using wood energy for industrial and commercial heat.
  • EECA's Heat Recovery seminars ran 1 March (Hamilton), 3 March (Napier), 4 March (Blenheim) and 5 March (Invercargill). They aimed to help processing businesses identify what processes produce waste heat, outline methods for recovering heat and build a business case for a heat recovery project including the savings that should be achieved and the typical project cost.
